| Marriage: Guard Your Heart |
|
As a child grows, there comes a time when they begin to become interested in the opposite sex. If you are young and reading this, guard your heart. Remember that there is probably someone who you will marry one day, and that person wants all of you. That person does not want you to have given your heart away to many other people. Be careful also how you dress. That person does not want others to be seeing parts of your body that were meant only for the eyes of your spouse. There is a force in society that is trying to sexualize young women and make them think of themselves as sexual objects. This same evil is instructing young men to think of girls as being pieces of property, something for their pleasure in an unholy way. The tendency to sin has always been prevalent, but Jesus said, "Things will become worse and worse, and then the end will come." Guard your heart. The deception goes very deep, even to the point of having a prayer partner of the opposite sex, and this leads to intimacy, which leads to infatuation, which leads to adultery when people don't guard their hearts. Run away from sexual sin. Husbands and wives must also guard their hearts. Be very careful not to make close friends with persons of the opposite sex. Many a fool has stumbled into adultery by simply being a good friend of someone of the opposite sex. The Holy Spirit will never lead anyone in this way. Once the human heart has been compromised, the natural sinful nature takes over and clouds the thinking. Some have even claimed that they felt that God was leading them into a relationship like this, but they were deceived by Satan because they failed to guard their hearts. So strong is the evil drive of the fleshly nature that elders and deacons of churches must be careful never to counsel a woman alone. Others have had parties in their homes where things were done that should not have been done. Alcohol in the home is a mistake for a Christian. The Bible tells us that strong drink is for those who have no hope. It is not for the kings and priests of God, which is exactly what Christians are. Others have brought in unhealthy entertainment media into their homes and have opened the door to many sins that destroy the marriage. Later, they wonder why they are so miserable, often blaming God for what they themselves have done to themselves.
